High School Education at the Upper Valley JVS

COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Information Technology is Ohio’s response to the technology workforce shortage. IT students learn on state-of-the-art equipment so that they may stay on the leading edge of rapidly changing computer technologies.

The focus of this program is on the information services and support area and prepares students for careers dealing with information technology deployment. Skills needed to acquire certifications are an integral part of this program.

Students develop specialized skills in the following areas:

  • Programming (Visual BASIC.Net/C++, Alice 3-D Simulation Software)
  • Networking
  • Operating systems
  • Web page design (HTML, Adobe Web Design Suite that includes Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Flash)
  • Computer applications using Microsoft Office 2007
  • Preparation for A+ certification
  • Software development and management
  • Management information systems
  • Technical assistance/computer user support
  • Hardware design, operation, and maintenance

Graduates are encouraged to further their education in the information technology field by attending a technical college or two- or four-year college or university.

Tech Prep Option Prerequisites:

  • Attain a minimum overall 2.0 grade point average (GPA) by no later than the end of the second semester of the 10th grade
  • Complete Algebra 1, Algebra 1 equivalent, or a higher level math course witha grade of "C" or better by the end of the 10th grade
  • Complete English with a grade of "C" or better
  • Show evidence of no deficiencies in progress toward meeting high schoolgraduation requirements.
