JVS Names Students of the Quarter

Fort Loramie High School Senior Alex Holscher and Troy High School Junior Sara Othersen were named the Upper Valley JVS Students of the Quarter for the second nine-week grading period.

According to JVS Director of Student Services, Randy Smith, Holscher is enrolled in the Building and Grounds program and Othersen is a student in Interactive Media. They were selected from a group of eleven nominations for the quarter honors.

Nominations for Student of the Quarter can be made by any teacher, counselor, or administrator. Students’ attendance, citizenship, leadership and effort are rated. In addition the student’s academic and career technical program instructors are asked to rate each nominee’s effort during the nine-week grading period.

Holscher is the son of Mark and Debra Holscher. He was nominated by his senior Building and Grounds instructor Frank Segreti who shares that he has applied hard work during his two years at Upper Valley JVS now qualifies for early placement in a position related to his career field. His academic teachers say that Holscher strives to do the best at whatever he is assigned in class; he is attentive, cooperative and maintains excellent work ethics.

Othersen is the daughter of Scott and Denise Othersen. She was nominated by her junior Interactive Media instructor Connie Keim. Othersen is a member of Business Professionals of America and is on the video production team competing in local and state contests. After graduation, she would like to pursue a career in video film production. Her academic teachers are proud of her daily efforts, her ability to work with her peers and her willingness to take on additional classroom tasks.

AWARD OF MERIT

Four students earned commendation for their nominations. Students earning an “Award of Merit” designation for Student of the Quarter honors:

  • Cody Gambill, Hosp. & Fac. Care II from Sidney
  • Amber Wiford, Build. Ground Maint. I from Sidney
  • Lon Bitner, Environmental Occ. I from Covington

HONORABLE MENTION

Five Upper Valley Joint Vocational students received “Honorable Mention” status in consideration for Student of the Quarter. They were:

  • Michelle Golden, Teacher Academy from Covington
  • Brandon Apple, Auto Collision II from Bradford
  • Karley Lewis, Chef Training II from Troy
  • Krista Jordan, Hosp. & Fac. Care I from Troy
  • Amanda Bell, Chef Training I from Troy
