JVS Student Attending Ohio Business Week
Upper Valley JVS Business and Financial Management senior Brandon Pittman has been selected to attend Ohio Business Week 2010. The event will be held in July at Ohio Dominican University from July 11-17.

Ohio Business Week is a one-week program that gives eligible high school students from around the state a unique, hands-on experience with business and entrepreneurship. Students learn directly from prominent business leaders from across the state. These individuals share their knowledge with students and address major business issues in a candid, informal manner. Hosted on a college campus, students also get to experience campus life.
The cost to attend Ohio Business Week is underwritten in part by scholarship sponsors and through the cooperation of the local Chambers of Commerce. The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce helped to finance Pittman’s attendance at this event.
As a requirement in the selection process, students were asked to complete an application and write an essay explaining why they would like to attend OBW. An endorsement of a high school teacher, counselor or administrator was also required.
Those selected have a C+ or higher grade point average and are involved in extracurricular and/or community activities.
Founded in 1988, Ohio Business Week is a program of the Ohio Business Week Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preparing Ohio’s high school students for success in the American free enterprise system while promoting leadership, integrity and entrepreneurship. Since its inception, the program has grown tremendously and now boasts nearly 6,000 "graduates." The OBW program is conducted in partnership with Battelle—The Business of Innovation and in affiliation with the National Council on Economic Education, OBTA—An Association for Business Technology Educators, and the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.
Pittman is a Piqua High School student and the son Darla Pittman and William Pittman. He was named a Piqua Top 100 student for the 2010 school year and was a JVS Student of the Month for February. Pittman is an Honor Roll student, and he achieved perfect attendance for the year. He was recognized for his JVS accomplishments at the Achievers’ Recognition on May 6. After graduation, Pittman plans to attend Edison Community College to study business and eventually earn a bachelor’s degree.
