JVS Auto Collision Student Assist with Community Service Project

Students in the Upper Valley JVS Auto Collision program recently assisted the Shelby County Sheriff’s office and the Lockington Fire Department to "ready" new service vehicles. The work for both of these community service projects was completed by the senior students during the school year.

Since the Shelby County Sheriff’s office now has jurisdiction for the Shelby County Animal Shelter, Sheriff Deputy Lew Warbington contacted Auto Collision instructor Frank Anthony to inquire whether the students would be able to paint one of the Shelter’s vehicles to match others that were painted by students in the past. The vehicle was painted and returned for lettering and decaling by another vendor.

The Lockington Fire Department received a grant from the Miami Conservancy District to purchase a spill trailer for use in the transportation of supplies needed for ground water protection in the Shelby and Miami County area. The Fire Department purchased a used trailer for this purpose. It needed minor body work and paint. Since the Auto Collision students had also previously done work for the Fire Department, Fire Chief Jon Adams contacted Anthony. This vehicle was painted and returned for lettering.

So that the students could see the finished products, both vehicles were brought back to the JVS for "inspection."

The paint for both of the projects was donated by J & J Enterprises and Car Paint, Inc., both of Piqua.

Instructor Frank Anthony is from Houston, and Paraprofessional Greg Anderson resides in Piqua.
